Good pianists are only very seldom also good organists. And reversed. Erwin Schmidt is of course an exception confirming the rule. His passionate affair with the Hammond B3 organ caught fire after a twenty-year faithful relation to the piano. On the trails of Organ-Heroes like Larry Young he sovereignly transports the rousing grooves of the 50s and 60s into the 21st century and proves impressively that he has - in these Mélange a Trois with the piano and Hammond - the reins tightly in his hand. Compared with many other “Hammondists”, who seem to drown in nostalgia sometimes, Schmidt is indeed able to speak a contemporary language on "movin'”, his current album.
